I'm sorry you feel that way. In future posts, I'll try to do my best not to use as much foul language. I'd suggest this, though: If you want to comment about the music, the album, the review—be my guest. Just don't come here and insult me—my intelligence ("pathetic") and my character ("grow up"), because you think that it's the decent thing to do. It's not.

I simply find it pathetic that people today would rather use crude language to express their thoughts, rather than dig a tad deeper into the English language, and perhaps find a richer choice of words to express themselves.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion—including you. I just don't agree with you. When I listen to music that I enjoy for the first time (this blog's "thesis," if you will), it's a game- and life-changing experience, and I'm often compelled to swear to add emphasis to my enjoyment. Some people say, "Like, you know, I'm, like, so happy, like this is, like, soooo great!" I just pare it down and say something like, "This is fucking fantastic." My friends know me as a teddy bear with a mouth like a sailor. I'm not going to change for a blog. After all, this is my "voice."

I'm also sort of pleased that you would mistake me for a teenager—that makes me feel a lot younger than I am. But again, this is your opinion of my work, and you are more than entitled to it. If you think it's childish to swear, that's your opinion.

Telling me to "grow up," though, is just a dick thing to say.

This would actually make for a great review, if it weren't for all the unnecessary crude language sprinkled about. Who are you trying to impress, you're teenage friends? Grow up.

Indeed, Google we must. So this is David "Elvis" Hixx I see I've had my battle of wits with—tour/stage manager and "arch-enemy" of Mr. Snider. Well, it's good to know that my reviews are finding their way to the right eyes. I meant this blog, top to bottom, to be a place where music was reviewed seriously. I will take a look at some of your favorites, and maybe, just maybe, I'll review them. Thanks again for reading!

Dr.Watson, I presume? Must we resort to Google to discover Elvis's true identity? I say not. Any Todd Snider albums that you shouldn't miss? In my unbiased opinion maybe about a dozen or so! In my quest to help Todd achieve money, compliments and publicity I usually point people to his Near Truths and Hotel Room Live album as an introduction. Don't miss East Nashville Skyline or The Devil You Know. Stuck On The Corner off of his Peace Queer album is one of my favorites. I could go on and on. I usually do. Music reviews. That's what scares people these days. That, and the comments that ensue.

Susan, thanks for reading the piece. I'm terribly sorry that I haven't updated the blog in awhile—but I do have a large tome coming. Keep your eyes peeled. I don't usually Google people who post to this blog, just 'cause they are who they are, but now I'm intrigued. I'll look into this Elvis guy. I would love to see Todd live, but I think I'm going to have to pick up a few more of his albums first. You sound like a fan: What are his best albums? Any that I shouldn't miss?

I agree with Elvis. Or at least I would if I understood what Elvis was saying. Or, for that matter, what you were saying. I do think your opinion should be influenced by those other magazines given that their articles are complimentary to Mr. Snider. I'm thinking your next project should be attending a live Todd Snider performance. It's hard to top one of those. And, hey, you might just come across this Elvis character;just a hint. By the way, keep listening. The duet with Loretta grows on you. I could go on and on. Don't tempt me, baby.

Wait ... who's Todd's road manager? The commenter above? That would be awfully funny.

In terms of your second note, Hedge, it's possible that my advance CD and your album were tracked differently: "Don't Tempt Me" is track 10; "Money, Compliments, Publicity (Song Number Ten)" is track 11. Because I was referring to "Don't Tempt Me" as the throwaway duet track--which we is below average--and "Money, Compliments ..." as the real number 10, which Snider, in my opinion, noted as such, because he's in on the joke about how below average "Don't Tempt Me" is. Or duet songs, in general. Hey, it's just my opinion, so I could be 100 miles off course.

And yes, I fully agree--"Pastime" could certainly live as a "baseball" song or a "drug" song alone, but those are two subjects that Americans really know the best, if you think about it. Sure, the British have given us guys like Syd Barrett and Keith Richards, so they do know their drugs, but baseball? Come on. [I hear a cliché coming on ...] That's as American as Apple Pie. And I have to say, with all the crap songwriting out there these days from both sides of the Atlantic, it's good to see amazing songwriters who are wholly American. Like Todd Snider. Who know their roots and have a sense of humor about them.

Thanks for reading! I swear, there will be more to come ...

As to whether he's a fan--I think he's Todd's road manager.

I haven't thought about the joke about Song Number Ten like that, but I'm not a huge fan of the Lynn duet, either. It always struck me as that America's Favorite Pastime could be interpreted as baseball--as it usually is--or drugs. Which fits the bill, if you think about it.

Except for the aforementioned second paragraph, I thought this was a good and entertaining review.
